The HLO dice roller doesn't seem to be part of the API, so you would still need everyone using the same tool. I expect for Roll20 it would continue to use the character sheet but you'd only use it for dice rolls. Depending on how the integration is done, you could use Hero Lab Online as your character sheet, and the VTT would update to match any changes you make, and vice versa. Ive had one player go ahead and create their character in the client and we had some questions about the character sheet. They have recently released their API, and the VTTs will be integrating with it. Tomorrow night Ill be GMing my first ever game on FG and PFRPG2. (It's similar to having someone pay for the books and leave them at the GM's house, and having to pay for petrol separately to get to game night.) Note that some people don't like the billing process, where you pay for the sourcebook content separately from paying for access. Players would only need apprentice accounts if the GM has a Partom account, or they would need to have a standard account. If you went this way you'd need he GM to have either a Patron or Standard account. The VTT would be used only for the maps and tokens. It permits a campaign mode where you can have the dice rolls public.
